SAN ANGELO, Texas - The city has hired a new planning manager.
Rebeca Guerra, who previously was the planning and code enforcement division manager in Tomball, is succeeding AJ Fawver, who was promoted to planning and development administrator, according to a city news release.
“This is an exciting time to be involved in planning in San Angelo, ” Guerra said in the release. “There are so many intriguing possibilities with new commercial construction, expansion of residential housing and development in downtown and at Lake Nasworthy.”
As planning manager, Guerra’s duties include:
- Supervising a staff of city planners.
- Leading short-term and long-range planning.
- Serving as the staff liaison for the Planning Commission, Zoning Board of Adjustments and the Design and Historic Review Commission.
- Overseeing the composition and updating of ordinances related to zoning as well as signs and subdivisions.
“Rebeca comes to us from a community that’s experiencing its own boom, so we’re confident she can assist in managing the growth we’re seeing here in San Angelo, ” said Patrick Howard, director of development services. “We also love her background of incorporating ‘green’ initiatives into development. We hope to implement some of those sustainable and eco-friendly concepts.”
Guerra, 42, completed her graduate studies at Florida Atlantic University in urban and regional planning with specializations in environmental planning and remote sensing, according to the release.
From 2003-12, Guerra worked as a senior planner and green project coordinator in Orange County, Florida, the release states.
Guerra is accredited through the American Institute of Certified Planners, the profession’s highest certification. Guerra is an accredited professional in Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, possesses a designation of Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design and is a registered code enforcement officer with the state of Texas, the release states.
Guerra’s salary information was not available Thursday.
In San Angelo, Guerra will be involved in historic preservation efforts, resident engagement and transportation planning — which will include work on the city’s major thoroughfare plan.
